The hitch is a 2.5 class with a 2 1/4 riser with a package wiring setup. Base weight of trailer is 1640 lbs, add 45 lbs for the fridge, 23 lbs for the heater, 8.5 lbs per gallon of water for a total of 85 lbs, and with equipment and food, a grand total of 2000 lbs. I do use an adjustable brake controller for a smoother braking Now the kicker, my Tucson is mountain rated towing at full speed. I also pull this load with a regular 2.4 liter PT Cruiser to my beach trips using a 2.5 class hitch so I don't damage the Cruiser frame. I do use a 4 inch riser on the Cruiser. The hitch has two additional bolt sections at the rear bumper for the additional rating and a manufactured wiring conntections.

Posts: 11 (11/28/07 9:20 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	My beloved 1979 Apache Ramada is carefully towed by my 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer LT, a dark green SUV with a 4.2 litre in-line six (6) cylinder engine and a towing package good for towing up to 5,200 lbs. A great towing vehicle. Mike.

Posts: 26 (12/03/07 2:57 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	When I to a Trailer .. be it my 1979 Ramada or my converted Truck bed or what ever I borrow from the Neighbor I use my 1996 Suburban 2500 I Hesitate to mention that as recently as last week it towed a popup of another MFG.. it was in sad shape but I got a COOL tire cover out of it. I will post more later on my adaption to work on the Ramada.

Short hauls will be with the '02 Jeep Wrangler X. The Wrangler fights it a little but when we get there and disconnect its load, it's a lot more fun (and cheaper) to drive! ron

So far my 97 Cherokee towed it home like it wasn't even there. I was really suprised. Hoping to replace the 97 within the next year. Looking for a comparable pickup. ---- Brian Portsmouth, VA

Last trip I got 20+ MPG towing over hills. I plan to put in rear springs from a wagon and an overdrive transmission for a few more MPG's. 68 Apache Eagle Numerous old Volvos

The Tercel had 62 horsepower when it was new, and it recently turned over 360k miles on the original engine, transmission, and clutch. We had no problems towing the Apache back to Arkansas, and I picked up another 66 Buffalo Mesa with it in Kansas this past weekend. My Tercel shaped what trailer I wanted. I decided that rather than buying a car that could tow a heavier camper, I'd buy as much camper as I could effectively tow anywhere with the Tercel. The Buffalo mesa is unique in having an aluminum road cover, and that was the deciding factor, aside from it's 785 pound road weight.

It's been pulling something or another since it was new. My camper is a feather compared to my boat. Even with it's anemic little 114 hp, four cylinder, it gets the job done.

I installed also transmission cooler. I know it raises eyebrows sometimes, but I have towed with this car my 16'/70HP fiberglass boat for 4 years and more than 5000km already. The dry weight of the boat/engine/trailer is about 2200 lb, but usually we're filling the boat with all camping equipment, so 1780lb dry weight of the Ramada (probably 2000-2200 curb) would be the same or less as feeling. BTW - towing capacity of 98 Camry is 2000 lb, even for 4 cyl.

I changed the outboard (old one died) from short shaft Merc to long shaft Johnson , so I put a 1/4" aluminum console to increase the transom height with 4 inches and hold the new engine. The latter alone weights about 150 pounds + installed full-size car leather seats + 2 tanks and bigger battery and equipment - I estimate I add about 250-300 pounds over 1400 boat + 400 trailer. Actually - I didn't weight it after mods I did, but should be somewhere there...

Van carries it well as long as the nose is not overloaded she doesn't sink at all.
